Montessori Education is an “Aid for Life.” At Peaceful Children Montessori School, students learn skills that will enable them to be independent. Our classroom is designed for the children between the ages of 3-6. Preschool and Kindergarten are combined in one group. This allows for the older children to practice their new skills by helping the younger ones. The younger students are assisted by their older peers in many ways, from shoe tying, coat zipping, reading and modeling appropriate behavior. In the morning from 8:30-11:30 all the students are together. At 11:30, our preschool students go home and the Full Day (Kindergarten) students stay until 3:00. By having the Full Day Students by themselves in the afternoons, we can concentrate on small group lessons, such as reading, cursive writing, math and science.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is the focus of our Children’s House classroom. Catechesis is based on the fact that children are spiritual beings and it is natural for them to be in relationship with God. Through the use of materials, scripture readings, and meditative questions the children embark on their joyful journey with God. The curriculum is a perfect compliment to Montessori because it is a hands-on approach to religion.
Our classroom is a “Prepared Environment” in which the furniture and materials is child sized. The classroom is beautiful. Only objects of purpose or beauty are in the room. The room is kept meticulously clean. The children are responsible for helping to maintain the environment, giving them the ownership that they need to feel in order to take care of the environment.
The classroom is divided into five areas. They are Atrium, Practical Life, Sensorial, Cultural, Language and Math. The students each have an individualized lesson plan that includes each of the five areas. We follow the Montessori, State and Diocesan curriculum standards. Once a child has been shown a lesson, they are free to repeat it as often as they’d like. They must put the work back on the shelf in beautiful order for the next person...
On Friday, the day is divided into four Fine Arts lessons.
They are music, foreign language, art and movement. Fridays are also half days, in which our Full Day students leave at 11:30.
