History

In 1993, a group of independent-minded parents came together to plan a school where every child would have the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential and develop a life-long love of learning.  The result was Peaceful Children Montessori.  Lower Elementary

The name was chosen as an affirmation of Maria Montessori’s firm belief that the education of the hearts and minds of our children is the surest path to a more peaceful world.

With the support of Divine Word Parish, Father Norm Smith, and Bishop Anthony Pilla of the Cleveland Diocese, Peaceful Children Montessori opened its doors to seventeen pre-school students in 1994.  Two years later, the school was incorporated as a non-profit entity.  Each subsequent year, a new grade was added, expanding our program to encompass pre-school through grade eight, with the first class of eighth graders graduating in 2004. Average enrollment has grown to eighty-five students.

Upper ElementaryThe collaboration between parents and teachers that characterized the conception of the school continues to be a hallmark of our program.  Their combined devotion to the school has had a tremendous impact on the formation and advancement of our mission.

In 2012, Peaceful Children will be launching a major capital campaign to support the construction of a new campus adjacent to the Holden Arboretum. This decision is based upon the ongoing success of our program, and on our desire to creat a learning environment that will provide our students more direct and frequent contact with the natural world.
