Community Connections
At Peaceful Children Montessori we have sought to enrich our curriculum through the development of educational partnerships with institutions in our local community. These relationships have provided unique opportunities in the areas of science education and exploration, physical education, local history, conservation, applied mathematics and service to those in need. Montessorians call this practice “pedagogy of place”. When students gain an understanding of their own place in the community, they can begin to see what is fundamental to all places. Discussions about regional, national or international issues take on a greater meaning and students begin to imagine how they can make a difference in their world.
Sites for these important learning opportunities include Holden Arboretum, North Chagrin Reservation, Chapin Forest, Porter Science Center, Red Oak Camp, the Kirtland Family History Center and Golden Living Center.
